New Zealand, a nation comprised of several islands in the southwest Pacific Ocean east of Australia, has about 103,454 square miles of land. The nation is home to about 4.5 million people.
In land area, New Zealand is only slightly smaller than Colorado. Compared to other nations, it is smaller than Japan and larger than Great Britain in land size but much smaller than both in population. It is a largely mountainous area with a population density of around 40 people per square mile. Although several islands make up New Zealand, the three major ones are the North Island, the South Island and Stewart Island.
