A queen palm, or Syagrus romanzoffiana, reaches up to 50 feet high and 20 to 25 feet wide, according to the University of Florida IFAS Extension. The trunk can reach a diameter of 8 to 15 inches.
The queen palm is one of the hardiest of the tropical palms, with a USDA hardiness range down to 9b. It is a feather-leaf palm with a smooth gray trunk, cream colored flowers during the spring and summer, and large orange fruits after flowering. Fruit clusters weigh over 100 pounds and can drop suddenly. This fruit contains hundreds of seeds that may form saplings under the queen palm.
