How big is Walt Disney World?

Florida's Walt Disney World Resort sits on a parcel of land that is roughly the same size as the city of San Francisco, which is 40 square miles. This is a total of about 27,000 acres of land in the Orlando area of central Florida.
As of 2011, more than 60 percent of the park's total land area was undeveloped, meaning the Walt Disney World Resort has a whole lot more room to grow. Walt Disney first purchased the land in the 1960s, and at that point, it was mostly swamp. Since the first theme park opened on the land in the early 1970s, development has occurred steadily.
