Yellow-bellied sliders grow from 5 to 12 inches when they are fully grown with males being smaller than females. They can live up to 30 years when they are provided with the right care in captivity.
The yellow-bellied slider is native to the southeastern portion of the United States particularly to Florida. It can be found living in slow-moving rivers, swamps, marshes, wetlands and even ponds. They make excellent pets because they are easy to care for. They can be kept in a small tank when they are young, but they require more space as they get older. They eat a variety of pond plants, romaine lettuce, collard greens and even freshly killed fish.
