What is the biggest bird in the world?

The biggest living bird in the world is the ostrich. Typically standing 7 to 9 feet tall, an ostrich weighs between 220 and 350 pounds. Native to African savannas and deserts, these birds have long, strong legs that allow them to travel 10 to 16 feet in just one step.
Although they are unable to fly, ostriches run for long distances at 31 mph. They reach sprinting speeds of 43 mph. Each foot has two toes and a sharp claw, which the birds use to defend against predators. To hide from predators, ostriches lower themselves to the ground and stretch out their necks. This makes them harder to see, especially since their feathers blend with the environment.
