What are some of the biggest countries in Africa?

As of 2015, some of the biggest African countries by area are Algeria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sudan, Libya and Chad. Algeria, in the northwest, is the largest African country, with an area of 919,595 square miles.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo, in the center of Africa, follows closely behind Algeria, with an area of 905,355 square miles. The northeastern country of Sudan is a tier below in size at 718,723 square miles, and its neighbor Libya is similarly sized at 679,362 square miles. Chad completes the top five at 495,755 square miles, but four other African countries are nearly the same size: Niger, Angola, Mali and South Africa.
