According to UKbirth-adoptionregister.com, those who were adopted in the United Kingdom may search for their birth records at national adoption registry offices. General Register Offices are located in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Those adopted in England should inquire at the Adoptions Section of the General Register Office of the Office for National Statistics in Southport, England. Inquiries can also be made at the General Register Office in Edinburgh, Scotland and at the Registrar General in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Those adopted before Nov. 12, 1975 must see a nominated counselor before obtaining access to their adoption records. Those adopted after Nov. 11, 1975 may choose whether they wish to see a counselor or not.
