What is a black Bombay cat?

The Bombay is a domestic cat breed resembling a miniature black panther. It is recognized by The International Cat Association and the Cat Fanciers' Association.
The Bombay owes its existence to Nikki Horner, who crossed a black American Shorthair male with a female Burmese in 1953. She used both the resulting kittens and outside crosses to create the desired type. The Cat Fanciers' Association recognized the Bombay for championship competition in 1976; The International Cat Association followed suit in 1979. The Bombay is a medium-sized muscular cat with a relaxed but affectionate disposition. Its head is rounded with a short muzzle. It is always black and has large eyes ranging from gold to copper.
