Does bleach kill termites?

Bleach, when sprayed directly on individual bugs, will kill termites. While bleach can be poured directly onto colonies to control an infestation, bleach is not very effective at eliminating entire colonies of termites, according to Merchant Circle. A more comprehensive treatment approach is necessary to rid a home of termites.
Other household items that are effective at killing termites include borax powder and table salt. Both ingredients can be applied to areas, such as walls, baseboards and siding, after mixing them with a small amount of water. When the solution dries, termites walk through it and take the toxins back to their colony.
