Bleeding in the eye might not be a sign of diabetes, but the chances of it happening are higher if a person is diabetic, according to Mayo Clinic. People are also at higher risk for bleeding in the eye if they have high blood pressure.
Other risk factors are taking anticoagulants and problems with blood clotting, says Mayo Clinic.
Bleeding in the eye is sometimes caused by violent sneezing or coughing, vomiting, or lifting heavy objects, claims Mayo Clinic. It can also come from rubbing the eye too vigorously, an injury to the eye or an eye infection. Other than this, doctors are not quite sure what causes the small vessels in the eye to burst.
