What is a blue potato bush?

Lycianthes rantonnetii, commonly known as the blue potato bush, is a shrub that produces purplish flowers with a yellow center. In autumn, the shrub produces small, red berries that are poisonous when consumed. The flowers are from the genus Lycianthes, and the family is Solanaceae.

This flower originates from the South American regions of Bolivia, Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay. According to the BBC, the shrub needs full-sun exposure to grow. It can grow as high and wide as 200 centimeters, or nearly 7 feet. The BBC recommends planting seeds between March and May. Flowering often appears between June and September; the leaves are known for rapid growth. The shrub's main use is ornamental.
