When should I trim my blueberry bushes?

Blueberry bushes should be trimmed or pruned in the winter season when they are dormant. Canes that are over seven years old should be pruned first, as they will be less productive than newer canes.
After trimming and pruning, the bush should have a wide open top and a narrow base. This shape will let the air and the sunlight into the blueberry bush. Blueberry bushes should always have dead and broken parts removed and be pruned yearly. The more blueberries they produce, the more that they will need solid pruning to continue being prolific. They should be in acidic soil and in full sun conditions for the best growth.
