Standard BMI, or body mass index, recommendations apply to both men and women, according to the American Cancer Society. A BMI measurement takes height and weight into account, with a BMI of 18.5 to 24.9 indicating normal weight in both men and women.
A BMI of less than 18.5 indicates a person is underweight, explains the American Cancer Society. A BMI of 25 to 29.9 indicates a person is overweight, and a BMI of 30 or greater indicates a person is obese. The American Cancer Society website has a BMI calculator that lets site visitors enter their weight and height to determine their BMI.
