Does body lotion expire?

Body lotion can expire. According to Fitness Magazine, lotions and moisturizers should be replaced after a year if they are opened and after two years if they are closed and sealed. Certain products that contain ingredients used to ward off acne or fight dandruff may need to be replaced sooner.
Not only do the emollients and fragrances contained in lotions break down over time, which makes them less effective, bacteria transferred from hands and fingers can get into the bottle and contaminate the product. For this reason, it's best to use an applicator to dip out creams and lotions rather than using fingers.
