Where is Bora Bora located?

Bora Bora is an island in French Polynesia in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. It's roughly 160 miles northwest of the island nation of Tahiti and 2,600 miles south of Hawaii.

Bora Bora has an area of 11.3 square miles and is surrounded by a lagoon and a barrier reef. In the middle of the island is an extinct volcano. As of 2008, the population on the island was approximately 8,880. In 1770 James Cook became the first European explorer to land on the island. In the early 19th century, Bora Bora was established as an independent kingdom. However, France annexed it as a colony in 1888.
