Boston is in the state of Massachusetts, located along the Atlantic Ocean coastline. It is the only state capital in the contiguous United States with a coastline. The latitude of Boston is 42.22N, and its longitude is 71.04W.

Boston sits in the vertical center of Massachusetts. It is just a few hours drive to the southern part of Maine to the north and a few hours drive to Rhode Island, Connecticut and New Hampshire. Boston is one of the oldest U.S. cities. It was founded by Puritan colonists in 1630. Its coastline location made it a significant city during the Revolutionary War.
