Bougainvillea flowers are small tubes that open to reveal white flowers. The leaves surrounding the flower (bracts) can be lavender, orange, purple, red or yellow in color.
Bougainvillea is a semi-evergreen plant that grows in subtropical areas of Central and South America. It must have sunlight, fertile soil and moist soil that drains well to grow. It grows from 15 to 25 feet in height 25 to 35 feet in width. The Bougainvillea can be pruned to grow as a tree or shrub, and it should be pruned after it has flowered. The stems of the Bougainvillea are covered in sharp thorns.
