Bouillon powder is a dehydrated stock that is in powder form. Bouillon powder flavors dishes when added to hot water or liquid.
Dehydrated stocks are available in powder and cubes. The powder and cubes are created from meat and vegetable stocks. Bouillon powder is often used in the flavoring of soups, stews, casseroles, rice and pasta dishes. Chicken, beef and vegetable are the most common flavors available. Bouillon powder also contains salt and seasonings for additional flavor. Vegan bouillon cubes are also available.
The word bouillon is French and translates as the word broth. Forms of bouillon cubes and powder have been used since the 18th century.
