What is powder coating?

Powder coating is a dry finishing process that applies a protective and decorative layer of paint to surfaces. Powder coats are available in a wide range of colors and textures, allowing manufacturers to create a variety of looks for their products.

Powder coating makes up over 15 percent of the industrial finishing market. Powder coating uses an electrostatic charge to attach colored powder to a grounded surface. It is generally applied to metals, plastics and medium-density fiberboard. After oven-curing the painted surface, the powder forms a strong layer of environmentally friendly coloring over the painted object. A secondary process applies the powder by fluidizing it and dipping hot parts into the fluid for coloring.
