Nystatin powder is an antifungal antibiotic used to treat variety of topical, fungal and yeast infections, explains Drugs.com. Unlike infections by other members of the Candida species, Candida albicans infections are successfully treated with this powder because the fungus does not have a resistance to nystatin.

Nystatin powder is used only for fungal and yeast infections of the skin, and it should not be used for systemic, oral, intravaginal or eye infections. The most common adverse reactions occur in less than 0.1 percent of patients using the powder, such as allergic reactions, burning, itching, the development of a rash, eczema or pain in the area where the powder is applied, explains Drugs.com.
