Where is the Brahmaputra River?

The Brahmaputra River originates on the Tibet Plateau and runs for about 1,800 miles through Tibet, India and Bangladesh. It joins the Ganges River from China in Bangladesh and empties into the Bay of Bengal.

The river's name changes many times on its course to the ocean. It is known as the Yarlung Tsangpo and the Dihang in Tibet, the Jamuna and the Brahmaputra in Bangladesh and the Siang in the Arunachal Pradesh state of India.

About one-million people live in the Ganges-Brahmaputra Delta, the largest river delta in the world. It is endangered by climate change and experiences frequent, catastrophic flooding.
