What is bratwurst made of?

Bratwurst is a sausage from Germany. It is commonly made using pork. Different regions in Germany use veal, beef and a combination of spices like lemon zest, pepper, salt and nutmeg. Bratwurst is sold raw or pre-cooked.

As of 2014, there are over 50 types of bratwurst that can be found in Germany. The seasonings, texture and size of bratwurst vary according to local tradition. The Coburger bratwurst, for example, contains 15 percent veal or beef and measures 10 inches long. The Nurnberger rostbratwurst, on the other hand, is three to four inches long. It is served in half-dozen or dozen pieces servings.
