Does a breadmaker need to be replaced when it has problems?

Many of the problems encountered with a bread machine can be fixed by adjusting the recipes used in the machine, and bakers should attempt these solutions before replacing the unit. Some common problems include finished bread that collapses, fails to rise or has raw spots.
Bread often fails to rise in the machine if the yeast is outdated or if salt and yeast are poured in together, making the yeast inactive. Too much liquid, too much yeast or too little salt can cause bread to collapse while baking. Opening the machine's cover during the baking cycle or using a cycle that is too short can result in raw spots.
