What is a "Buffy" scythe?

The "Buffy" scythe is a particular type of prop scythe that the main character from the television series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" wielded. The scythe's actual name is the Slayer's Scythe. Its fictional purpose is to imbue the Slayer with the power to defeat the last remaining pure demon.

Replicas of the prop scythe are commercially manufactured and available for purchase. On the television series, Buffy's friends Giles and Willow are initially unable to understand the weapon's origin or its precise purpose. Meanwhile Buffy, the Slayer, eventually learns more about the weapon from an old woman, known as a Guardian, who reveals the purpose of the scythe to Buffy.
