How do you build an aquarium?

To build an aquarium, determine the size of the tank and thickness of the glass. Cut five pieces of glass for the sides and bottom of the tank, and connect the pieces with silicone adhesive. Add plastic or metal bracing if desired.
- Determine the size of the tank
Measure the area where you intend to place the tank. Calculate the length and height of each panel of the tank, and then determine the thickness of the glass you plan to cut. Choose sheet glass at least 1/4 inch thick.
- Cut the glass
Cut five pieces of glass matching the dimensions of the tank, and grind down the edges of the glass to avoid injury.
- Clean the edges with acetone
Wipe the edges of the glass with acetone to remove debris.
- Use adhesive bonding on the edges
Apply a silicone adhesive to the edges of the glass. Consider using aquarium silicone sealant, since it contains anti-mildew chemicals. Immediately press the edges of the glass together, and hold the pieces steady until they set.
- Add bracing
Add plastic or metal bracing to the tank to reinforce the adhesive seams, if desired.
- Add water
Wait for the sealant to dry, and then pour in water. Finally, introduce fish to the tank.
