Build a chicken incubator with a Styrofoam cooler and a 75-watt light bulb with a dimmer switch. A thermometer with a humidity gauge is also needed.
Follow these guidelines to make a homemade ice chest Styrofoam incubator.
- Gather items needed
- Build the incubator
A 10- to 18-inch Styrofoam cooler with lid, a drill, a 75-watt light bulb with a dimmer and a thermometer with a humidity gauge are needed.
Drill eight holes for air in the Styrofoam, four on the top and four on the bottom. Insert the light bulb and a cup of water to establish 99.5 degrees Fahrenheit, with 60 to 65 percent humidity as determined by the thermometer. Once the temperature and humidity are established, add the chicken eggs and turn them three times per day until hatched.
