Each quarter, the American Petroleum Institute website publishes gasoline taxes by state. The API State Motor Fuel Taxes by State report lists excise and other taxes for both gasoline and diesel. The report also includes descriptions of fees, such as the reasons for increases and decreases.

The API provides a summary of its detailed report that lists state gasoline taxes in table format. The U.S. Energy Information Administration also provides a state-by-state list of gasoline taxes, which is available as a downloadable spreadsheet. It also publishes consumption information and price projections for U.S. regions. The U.S. EIA also provides historical gasoline tax rates, as does the Tax Foundation.
