Buspar is an anti-anxiety medication approved to treat generalized anxiety disorder, according the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, or NAMI. It is available in tablets of 5 mg, 10 mg, 15 mg and 30 mg.
WebMD notes that this medication affects neurotransmitters in the brain. It can help a person feel less jittery, relax and worry less. Buspar can also help control physical symptoms such as sleeping difficulties, sweating, and pounding heartbeat. Symptoms of anxiety can initially worsen when a person begins therapy with Buspar, according to WebMD, and it may take a month or more for this medication to work.
