Using whole wheat flour instead of white flour is a simple way to make a desert healthier. However, whole wheat flour can result in a denser finished product. To replace white flour in a cake recipe, substitute 3/4 of a cup of whole wheat flour in place of 1 cup of white flour. Also add one extra tablespoon each of any liquids in the recipe.
