According to the dailyburn.com, calculate a man's basal metabolic rate by using BMR = 10 x weight(kg) + 6.25 x height(cm) – 5 x age + 5 . For women, use BMR = 10 x weight(kg) + 6.25 x height(cm) – 5 x age – 161.
A person's BMR is the number of calories his body needs to support vital body functions if he were, hypothetically, inactive for 24 hours. The above formula is known as the Mifflin-St. Jeor Equation, and according to the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, it is the most accurate at measuring BMR.
