How do you calculate crude birth rate?

The crude birth rate is calculated by dividing the number of the total population by the number of births in one year, according to Columbia University. The CBR of a population can be used to assign a stage of development.

According to Columbia University, a CBR of around 40.4 would label a country as "least developed." A CBR of around 23.1 labels a country as "developing" and a CBR of around 11.2 labels a country as "developed."

Crude birth rate can be a good measure of the fertility of a given population. However, the value does not take into account factors that might influence fertility, such as marrying age.
