Is California a right-to-work state?

California is not a right-to-work state. California is considered a forced-unionism state. The right-to-work laws protect the rights of employees to make decisions regarding joining or supporting a union.

Right-to-work laws do not in any way represent a guarantee of employment, but instead prevent employers and labor unions from excluding non-union workers. Right-to-work laws also prohibit employers and labor unions from requiring employees to pay a set amount to unions that facilitate contracts that all employees work under already. Opponents of the right-to-work laws believe people are not deprived of the right to work in states that are not right-to-work states.
