A baby kangaroo is also referred to as a joey. An adult female kangaroo is sometimes called a flyer, while an adult male is known as a boomer.

Forty different species of kangaroos exist, with the wallaby being the smallest and the red kangaroo being the largest. When the red kangaroo stands upright it is usually more than 6 1/2 feet tall, with a typical weight of around 185 pounds. The word kangaroo was first used in 1770 in the diary of Sir Joseph Banks. Banks was an English botanist, who enjoyed collecting plants from around the world.
