Free practice ACT tests are available online from various test-preparation specialists including Kaplan, Union Test Prep and Varsity Tutors. However, to take the actual ACT test, students must register and pay online at the official website, ACTStudent.org, and take the test at an ACT-approved test center.

ACT's official website offers a downloadable, free test preparation booklet that contains a full-length practice test and answer key. The website also provides an ACT question of the day for additional practice. Although not free, ACT- and test-preparation companies such as Kaplan offer online ACT-preparation programs for students hoping to achieve a higher score.
