Rent assistance is sometimes available through government programs, community organizations and church groups. Guidelines have changed for many government programs to extend the available assistance to more people, thus, those who were once turned down for government programs should reapply before seeking assistance from other sources.

When government programs are not an option, community organization and church groups may be able to provide rental assistance. It is not necessary to be a member of the organization or church to qualify for assistance. If a church group or community organization cannot assist, they may be able to recommend someone who can.
