Baking soda can be used to treat acid reflux, according to Healthline. It contains a substance known as sodium bicarbonate, which is an antacid that helps neutralize acid in the stomach and keeps it from building up in the esophagus.
There are many ways an individual can take baking soda to help with acid reflux, states Healthline. The most common way is to mix store-bought baking soda with a small glass of water and drink it. Another way of taking baking soda is through pill form, usually by prescription. The usual dose for adults is 1/2 teaspoon every two hours. However, baking soda does contain sodium, so individuals following a low-sodium diet should not use it.
