Can bats see?

All bats can see. Microbat species generally have poorly developed eyes and poor visual acuity, but most megabat species have excellent eyesight and even some color vision.

Some bats use echolocation to capture prey. The bats emit ultrasonic cries that bounce back to them, allowing the bat to get an image of its surroundings. Bats that use echolocation tend to have poorer vision, but do use their eyes to navigate beyond the range of their echolocation. Nocturnal and cave-dwelling bats have adapted to be able to use very dim light, and some species may even be able to see ultraviolet light.
