Some Dresden artists use a technique, called Dresden lace, to create the illusion of real fabric on women figurines. The artists dip actual delicate lace into porcelain slip before applying it by hand to the figurines. The figurines are then fired in a kiln with the fabric burning away and forming a shell of a long wavy skirt. Most of the figurines feature women dancing at royal balls or posing in groups.
