Skin conditions such as dermatitis and allergic eczema may cause a person's skin to itch and feel like it's burning, states Healthline. Fungal infections, such as athlete's foot, can cause itching and burning on a specific part of the body.
Patients with dermatitis, or inflammation of the skin, often have a red rash that is accompanied with blisters or dry, cracked skin, according to Mayo Clinic. Itching associated with the condition may range from mild to severe, states Healthline. Allergic eczema usually occurs when a person comes into contact with something she is allergic to, such as certain clothing dye or jewelry containing nickel.
