Although companies do not offer free cellphones specifically for children, it is possible to get free cellphones by subscribing to various payment plans by AT&T. As of January 2016, the company offers the Galaxy S5 by Samsung and the Xpression 2 by LG for free.

To be eligible for the free phone offers, customers must sign two-year long contracts. The Galaxy S5 is a high-performance cellphone that offers 2 gigabytes of RAM and 16 gigabytes of internal storage space. The S5 runs on Android.

In comparison, the Xpression 2 is an entry-level device with 128 megabytes of RAM and 256 megabytes of storage. It also has a full QWERTY keyboard that users can slide from the back.
