To use the tax refund estimator, a taxpayer needs to input her tax filing status, gross filing income, IRA contributions, itemized deductions and personal exemptions, as the IRS explains. Other required information includes number of dependents and any federal taxes withheld during the tax year. Once all the information has been inputted, submitting the form provides an estimate regarding the size of the taxpayer's refund.
