Cheap crate engines exist online at SummitRacing.com, Jegs.com, Chevrolet.com, CrateEngineDepot.com and eBay.com, as of 2015. The engine manufacturers include ATK, Granatelli Motor Sports, Edelbrock and BluePrint Engines. Most of the engines are V-8s and V-6s.

Summit Racing Equipment offers many crate engines for under $2,000. These include rebuilt engines, older engines and long-block assemblies. Summit Racing's website also offers installation instructions for many engines.

The Jegs crate engines range in horsepower from 200 to more than 700. Users can sort the listings by price, with most costing more than $2,000.

Chevrolet sells its engines and sorts them by horsepower. Its cheapest crate engine is around $3,200 for a 290-horsepower, 5.7-liter V-8.
