Can civilians buy military jets?

Civilians can purchase military jets, though the jets must be completely disarmed before the U.S. government allows them to be taken into possession by a prospective owner. Most jets purchased by civilians are older models.

Civilians can purchase both jet-driven and propeller-driven military aircraft, and the price for these aircraft varies greatly depending on the source of the aircraft, its condition and its age. Propeller-driven aircraft are generally less expensive than jets due to their reduced complexity. Jets cost as much as several million dollars, and prospective owners can expect to pay at least $1 million for a jet that is in working condition.
