Can CoQ10 lower your cholesterol?

As of 2015, there is no conclusive evidence that coenzyme Q10 supplementation effectively lowers cholesterol levels, according to WebMD. However, supplementing with CoQ10 may help reduce the side effects of cholesterol-lowering statin drugs, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center.
Coenzyme Q10 is an antioxidant found naturally in the body and is necessary to convert food into energy. Statins tend to reduce the levels of CoQ10 in the body, and CoQ10 supplementation has been suggested as a method to bring levels back to normal. There is also evidence that CoQ10 may decrease the muscle pains commonly associated with taking statins, notes the University of Maryland Medical Center.
