The Where's My Refund? tool provides taxpayers with a status update on their refund approximately 24 hours after a tax return has been electronically filed, and four weeks after a return was submitted by mail, the IRS explains. Status updates are provided once every 24 hours. Generally, it taxes 21 days after a tax return was filed and accepted before a refund is issued.
