Can you diagnose skin diseases from photos?

LA BioMed researcher Dr. Noah Craft helped develop an app that uses pictures to help diagnose more than 1,300 skin diseases, states ABC Eyewitness News. Although the app is mainly designed for use by doctors, hospitals and medical schools, anyone may purchase it on the VisualDx website, as of 2015.

Sometimes patients who develop new skin problems may wait several weeks to get a medical appointment, and the VisualDX app can help them identify potential emergencies before they see a doctor, explains ABC Eyewitness News. Serious heart problems or autoimmune disorders can produce symptoms such as marks on the skin, so using the app may actually help save lives, asserts Dr. Craft.
