The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals acknowledges that dogs that have not finished their multiple-injection series of parvo vaccines are susceptible to the virus. Puppies must be vaccinated between six and eight weeks, at 16 to 20 weeks and then again after a year.
The ASPCA notes that a puppy's parvovirus vaccination series is not complete before four months of age and that older dogs that have not received a full parvovirus vaccination series are also susceptible. Canine Journal explains that 80 percent of adult dogs with parvovirus do not display any symptoms once they are infected, and even healthy dogs are susceptible to infection.
