Dogs can eat peas safely. Peas are a good source of potassium, zinc, iron and several vitamins. Depending on the size of the dog, 1 or 2 tablespoons of peas is recommended. The dietary fiber in peas also helps overweight dogs feel full thereby reducing the dog's intake.
Dogs can eat raw or cooked peas, but cooked peas are softer and easier to digest. Peas also promote bowel movements, but feeding dogs too large a quantity of peas can cause diarrhea and gastrointestinal problems. Experts recommend giving peas or any vegetables only as part of a balanced diet. They shouldn't make up more than 25 percent of the dog's diet.
