Drinking beer while breastfeeding is possible, but it is not recommended, according to Mayo Clinic. Beer and other consumed alcohols pass through to breast milk. Alcohol in breast milk is never considered safe for a baby to consume.
Alcohol that passes through to breast milk is of the same concentration as it is in the bloodstream. A baby that consumes beer via breast milk only eliminates it from its body half as fast as an adult, according to Mayo Clinic. Impaired motor development, irregular sleep patterns in the baby and decreased milk production in the mother are just a few of the side effects of drinking beer while breastfeeding.
