Dizziness, also called vertigo, is a symptom of an ear infection, according to WebMD. An inner ear infection is caused by a virus that typically goes away on its own within one to six weeks.
Dizziness may also be a sign of more severe conditions such as benign paroxysmal positional vertigo or BPPV. This condition causes the sufferer to feel as if his head is turning when it is not. Meniere's disease causes severe vertigo and ringing in the ears. Dandy's syndrome causes the sufferer to feel as if everything is bouncing up and down. Less common causes of dizziness are stroke and tumors, according to WebMD.
